Police confirm eight arrests made at today's Orange Walk parade in Glasgow

Police have confirmed that eight people were arrested this afternoon as the Orange Walk parade passed through the streets of Glasgow.

Around 4,000 people took part in the annual event commemorating the Battle of The Boyne in 1690, with another 4,000 to 5,000 following it, according to Police.

And, according to STV News, two of the arrests were made over an alleged sectarian breach of the peace and others for minor public order offences.

Of the eight arrested, three will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

Last month the Orange Lodge agreed to reroute the procession away from St Alphonsus church in the east end after a priest was spat on at last year's event.

More than 30 roads in the city centre were closed today as a result.
