Police say Glasgow gangland figure Omar Sadiq was murdered during a “targeted attack” in the city’s southside.

The 32-year-old was found in a pool of blood by officers after being knifed on Boydstone Road in the Pollok area at around 1.25pm on Tuesday.

He was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

A probe was launched and cops remained at the scene, near Silverburn shopping centre, for several hours where they guarded an abandoned Audi car.

Police Scotland have said they are following a “positive line of enquiry” in the investigation which is now officially being treated as murder.

Detective Inspector Brian Gribbons, based at Govan CID, said: "We are following a positive line of enquiry however we would still appeal to anyone who has any information about this incident to contact us.

"We believe this was a targeted attack and there was no wider risk to the public."

Sadiq was associated with Imran “Baldy” Shahid, his brother Zeeshan Shahid and Faisal Mushtaq who were all sentenced to life in November 2006 after being found guilty of killing 15-year-old Kris Donald.

The racist murder took place in the southside of Glasgow in March 2004 in case that shocked the nation.

In 2009, Sadiq was sentenced to five years in jail for his role in a gang feud which had links to the young man’s killers.

Anyone with information regarding Sadiq’s killing should contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 1615 of 15 September.
