Police confirm death of 70-year-old man after West Lothian A71 smash last week

Police Scotland have confirmed that a 70-year-old man who was involved in a two-car collision in West Lothian last week has died as a result of his injuries.

The incident happened around 12.30pm on Tuesday, December 7, on the A71 eastbound at Bankton Road between the Lizzie Brice and Newpark roundabouts in Livingston.

The crash involved a lorry and a car, with the other person involved, a 68-year-old woman, also being taken to hospital and later released following treatment.

The man, the driver of the car, was taken by ambulance to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he died on Friday, 10 December.

Sergeant Peter Houston of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit, said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased. The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this time."

Police had raced to the scene with officers closing off the section of Bankton Road between the Lizzie Bryce and Newpark roundabout.

An emergency response was still present at the scene at 5pm on Tuesday afternoon, with the road remaining closed until further notice.
