Police confirm cordon in place for the Amber Gibson investigation has now lifted

Cadzow Street in Hamilton town centre has been reopened today.

The cordon was in place near the scene where tragic Amber Gibson's body was found.

The area has been closed since Sunday after police swooped on the scene while investigations were carried out into the 16-year-old's disappearance.

Police tape also blocked off the road which runs near urban green space area Cadzow Glen as enquiries continued throughout the week.

The cordon remained in place in recent days as cops were seen guarding the area in Hamilton. But South Lanarkshire Council's roads team today announced that Cadzow Street can again be accessed by locals.

They Tweeted: "Cadzow Street in Hamilton has reopened".

That was after the local authority notified the public of the roads disruption earlier this week.

It comes as Amber's brother, Connor Gibson, 19, is due to appear in court today charged with the teen's alleged murder.

Amber's body was discovered within a wooded area of Cadzow Glen on Sunday Morning, November 28. She had been reported missing from her Hillhouse home on Friday, November 26.

Police told Lanarkshire Live yesterday: "A man has now been charged in connection with death of Amber.

"We can confirm that the 19-year-old man who was arrested last night has now been charged.

"A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."

An increased police presence has centred around the Cadzow Street, Church Street, Common Green, Sheiling Hill, Back o' Barns and Postgate - the area known locally as the auld town - as well as at Fore Row and Back Row.

However, as of today, Cadzow Street in the town centre is reopened to the public.
