Police confirm Brandon Rice death probe will investigate whether drugs were involved

Police will examine whether drugs played any part in the tragic death of a schoolboy who fell ill at a party.

Rugby player Brandon Rice, 17, collapsed at a house party in Hamilton in the early hours of Wednesday and was rushed to hospital in East Kilbride, where he died.

Two girls, aged 16 and 17, and a 16-year-old boy also received medical treatment but are not believed to be in a serious condition.

Reports claim ecstasy may have been involved in the incident.

Tragic teenager Brandon Rice had recently finished fifth year at Hamilton Grammar School (UGC)

Brandon had finished fifth year at Hamilton Grammar School and played for Hamilton Rugby Club. A spokesman for the police’s Greater Glasgow division said: “One line of enquiry may be drugs.

“But we will not know the cause of death until the results of the post-mortem come back.”

Brandon’s headteacher, Graeme Sives, said: “He was a fine young man and is a great loss to our school community.”
