Police confirm body of woman found on Ayrshire beach has been formally identified

Police have confirmed that a woman whose body was found on an Ayr beach last week has now been formally identified.

The lady was discovered by a walker close to Heads of Ayr shortly after 10.30am last Monday, February 1.

Police launched an appeal in the aftermath to try and identify her and have now concluded their investigation.

Officers have now confirmed that the body has been formally identified and next of kin are aware.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Chief Inspector Brian Anderson, area commander at South Ayrshire, said: "I would like to thank the public for their assistance with our earlier appeal in relation to this incident and for sharing our social media post.

"I extend my condolences to the family of the woman involved."
