Police confirm body of missing James Coyle recovered from canal

Police have this afternoon confirmed the body recovered from the Forth and Clyde Canal is that of missing Drumchapel dad James Coyle.

An extensive search was launched for the 34-year-old following his disappearance at the end of the November.

Police received a report of a body being discovered in the canal, near to Strauss Avenue in Clydebank, shortly after noon yesterday.

A post-mortem has been undertaken and James' family have been made aware. Police say the death is not being treated as suspicious.

A police statement published this afternoon advised: "Police Scotland can confirm that a body found in the canal near to Strauss Avenue, Clydebank, is that of missing person James Coyle (34) from Knightswood.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious.

"Relatives are aware.

Chief Inspector Natalie Carr commented: "Our thoughts are with James's family and friends at this sad and difficult time.

"Thank you to everyone who shared our earlier appeal for information and assisted with enquiries."
