Police have confirmed a 76-year-old woman has died following a crash in Edinburgh this morning.
Emergency services raced to Saxe Coburg Place, Stockbridge, around 10am, following a one-vehicle collision and locked down the quiet residential street.
As a result of the crash a 76-year-old woman, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, sustained fatal injuries.
Residents in the area reported a heavy police presence as cops closed the road to continue enquiries into the crash.
The street remained cordoned off for around three hours and later reopened at 1pm.
Police are now urging anyone who witnessed the incident to get in touch.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers were called to Saxe Coburg Place in Edinburgh, at around 10am on Friday, 21 May, 2021, following a road traffic collision involving one vehicle.
"As a result of the collision the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 76-year-old woman, sustained fatal injuries.
"The road was closed until around 1pm for collision investigation and has since re-opened.
"Anyone who saw the incident and has not yet spoken to officers, should contact Police Scotland on 101 and quote incident number 0823 of 21 May."
