Police conduct 'door to door' enquiries after three-month-old baby died on New Years Day

Police have launched an investigation after a three-month-old baby was reported to have died on New Year's Day.

Merseyside Police received a call from North West Ambulance Service at around 4.30pm on Saturday, January 1, to report the death of a baby at an address in Old Swan in Liverpool.

Residents on Goschen Street in the city told the LiverpoolEcho that multiple police cars, an ambulance and scientific support had been dispatched to the scene.

Eyewitnesses said officers were making door to door enquiries, not leaving the scene until 10.15pm on New Years Day.

Merseyside Police confirmed an investigation is now underway following the incident.

A force incident manager said: "Police received a call at 4.30pm in the afternoon on Saturday, January 1, after a report from the ambulance service that a three-month-old child had passed away.

"This is part of the protocol for information to be passed on to police when something like this happens and officers attended the scene.

"A police investigation is now underway."
