Police conclude investigation into racial abuse allegations at Wagamama

Nottinghamshire Police has concluded an investigation into an alleged hate crime at the city centre branch of Wagamama, saying they will not take the matter further due to lack of evidence.

Hamid Sheikh, 21, from Aspley, had contacted Nottinghamshire Police claiming he was racially abused while working at the restaurant.

Wagamama had previously said they had already looked into the matter and refuted the claim, although added at the time that they were willing to co-operate with any external investigation.

Hamid has since left the company and is currently unemployed.

Inspector Paul Gummer, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "We have thoroughly investigated this matter, obtained an account from all parties involved, reviewed all other evidential opportunities and conducted an interview.

"Following that investigation it has been established that there is insufficient evidence to proceed any further at this time.

"The person who made the report has been made aware of this and that the investigation will be resumed, should any further evidence come to light at any point.

"We treat all alleged hate incidents seriously and encourage anyone who believes they have been a victim of an offence to report it to us."
