Police concerns about city centre takeaway Juicy Gossip after alleged rape and stabbing

Police are trying to stop a Leeds city centre takeaway from opening until 5am by highlighting concerns about an alleged rape and a stabbing.

Juicy Gossip has applied to Leeds City Council's licensing sub committee for a temporary events notice, which would allow it to serve food and drink until 5am on Saturday, March 30 and Sunday, March 31.

But West Yorkshire Police has urged the sub committee to reject the application due to concerns about crime and disorder.

In its objection, the force raised concerns about a string of serious incidents at the takeaway which were reported last year.

It also pointed out the Lower Briggate takeaway has planning permission to remain open until 11pm, but officers found that it was open in the early hours of the morning when they attended five incidents last year.

In a letter, PC Catherine Arkle said West Yorkshire Police is concerned the takeaway owners have been 'committing offences under section 136 of the Licensing Act 2003' and contravening planning permission.

The council sub committee will decide whether to approve or reject the application for a temporary events notice at a meeting on Tuesday, March 26.
