Police managed to talk a man out of jumping from the roof of a building in the heart of Bangkok on Wednesday.

The Erawan Centre of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and Ruam Katanyu Foundation reported seeing a man apparently preparing to jump from the top of a 10-storey building under construction on Soi Ratchadami 2 near Big C Super Centre at around 4pm.

Phaya Thai firefighters rushed to the scene and deployed a giant air cushion in case he decided to take the plunge.

At about 5.45pm, after almost two hours of persuasion by Lumphini police, the man left the rooftop and returned inside the building, 199 police radio reported.

The man was not identified. Early reports on Twitter said he was a foreigner. Jor Sor 100 traffic radio reported he was 21 years old.
