Police, coastguard and lifeboat called to person in trouble on Portishead coast

Lifeboat and coastguard crews were called out after concerns were raised for the welfare of a person along the Portishead coast.

Portishead RNLI were called at just after 1pm on Saturday amid concern for a person’s welfare near the town’s marina.

Crews launched with two of the coastguard team on board in case a mud rescue was needed.

Police were able to resolve the situation and the person was found and taken to safety.

Crews were then called to reports of people in the mud along the shore line at Portishead Lake Grounds.

A search of the shoreline was carried out but no one found.

A spokesman for Portishead RNLI said “Volunteers launched on Saturday, November 28 at at 1.12pm to assist Avon & Somerset Police and Portishead Coastguard Rescue Team with an incident not far from the Lifeboat Station.

“The crew launched with two of the coastguard team on board in case they had to be deployed for a mud rescue.

“The police were able to successfully resolve the incident.

“The RNLI crew were then asked to check the Lake Grounds shoreline as a report had come in of people in the mud.

“After a shoreline search nothing was found apart from a few muddy footprints. The Coastguards on board the lifeboat and crew were happy it was a call with good intent and were stood down.”

A police spokesman said: “We were called at 11.45am on Saturday amid concern for a person’s welfare near Portishead marina.

“They had left by the time officers arrived, so an area tour was conducted.

“The individual was found safe and well nearby and taken into the care of police.”
