Police closed part of the M1 near Lutterworth after missing man is found

Police shut both ends of the M1 today after they found a missing Leicestershire man.

79-year-old Alan Ling was last seen at this home at around 5pm on Thursday, November 21.

He was found near junction 20 of the M1 earlier this morning, reports LeicestershireLive.

At about 10.30am today, the slip road onto the northbound motorway at Lutterworth was closed but later the air ambulance was called to the scene.

Both northbound and southbound carriageways of the motorway were then shut so that the helicopter could land nearby.

By 11.30am there were queues several miles long in both directions.

The road reopened at around 11.45am.

Yesterday Leicestershire Police issued an appeal for help tracing Mr Ling. Officers said he had never gone missing from home and had been suffering from dementia, causing them to be concerned for his welfare.

The police said in a statement: “He has been found in the Lutterworth area, close to the M1, this morning.

“Thank you to everyone who shared our appeal to help find Alan.”
