Police closed off Hamilton retail park after reports of large gathering

A retail park in Hamilton was closed off by police last night after a large gathering took place.

It is understood that car enthusiasts had met within Hamilton Palace Retail Park at around 8.25pm.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “We were called at around 8.25pm on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, following the report of a large gathering at Hamilton Palace Retail Park.

“Officers attended, advice was given and the retail park was temporarily closed while the crowd dispersed.

“The retail park opened shortly after. There were no arrests and no injuries.”

However some caught up in the incident were angered at the police being called.

One car enthusiast said: “All car events are family friendly and any time car enthusiasts are seen we are all look down on as ‘boy racers’.

“We should be allowed to show our pride and joys off and park up and talk about our cars and what we have changed or are planning on doing.”
