Police close road after shots fired on residential street

A police cordon is in place after shots were fired in Liverpool last night.

William Henry Street, in Islington, is closed by officers as forensic officers gather evidence from the scene.

Merseyside police confirmed that at 9.30am this morning they received a report that at around 11.30pm last night (Wednesday, August 18) shots were fired.

Officers attended the scene and found evidence consistent with a gun being fired, though no injuries have been reported to emergency services.

Detectives are currently in the area to carry out extensive forensic, CCTV and witness enquiries and to speak to the local community.

Chief Inspector Steve Hardy said: "We’re in the very early stages of an investigation into a gun being fired on William Henry Street and we would appeal for anyone with any information to come forward.

"Firing a weapon is extremely reckless and while, thankfully, nobody was injured, this would have been shocking for the local community.

"We're keen to hear from anyone in the area who saw or heard anything yesterday evening, or captured anyone in the area on CCTV, dashcam or doorbell devices.

"We will act on all information provided on gun crime to remove weapons and those who use them from the community. Please come forward with what you know, directly or anonymously, and we will do the rest."
