Police have closed the Ormeau Bridge while they deal with an ongoing incident.
A section of the Ormeau Road and Ormeau Embankment has been closed by the PSNI and there have also been reports of the police helicopter being deployed.
The road has been closed since around 9.45pm.
The fire and ambulance service are also in attendance along with search and rescue volunteers.
It is understood that a person may have entered the water.
A witness at the scene said: "Police have closed off most of Ormeau Embankment and part of the Ormeau Road and there are fire engines and ambulances down here as well.
"There is a helicopter overhead and boats in the river."
