Police close murder investigation into woman found dead at home in Bolton

Police say they are no longer treating the death of a woman in Bolton as suspicious.

Officers cordoned off Alexandra Road, Lostock, on Friday night after the woman was found dead.

However, following investigations by forensic teams and a post-mortem, police now say there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.

Two men, aged 72 and 73, were arrested on suspicion of murder but both have now been released.

Officers say the woman, now thought to be in her 50s, sustained injuries after falling.

Detective Inspector Alison Witkiewicz, of GMP’s Bolton district , said: “Following the woman’s tragic death on Friday, it was important that we took the necessary steps to ensure the incident was investigated thoroughly and properly – as is only right in circumstances such as this one.

“Having received the results of the post-mortem and investigated every forensic and CCTV opportunity available to us, we are now satisfied that her death was non-suspicious and as a result the two men have been released with no further action taken.

“Specially trained officers continue to update the woman’s family and support them through this distressing time.

"Our thoughts continue to be with them.”
