Police chopper targeted by laser pointer

A Victorian man who allegedly pointed a laser at a police helicopter has been charged, after the helicopter crew tracked where the beam was coming from.

Members of the Air Wing directed officers on the ground to an address in Craigieburn after their aircraft was targeted about 9pm on Saturday night.

The man fled the home but after a chase, the 36 year old was arrested nearby.

He is now facing 18 charges, including endangering the safe operation of an aircraft, three counts of assault emergency services worker, reckless conduct, possess prohibited weapon and bail offences.

He has been remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Sunday.
