PSNI checking CCTV to identify youths involved in East Belfast interface trouble

Police say they are checking CCTV to try and identify around 30 young people involved in trouble at an East Belfast interface last night.

The youths are reported to have fled the area as officers arrived under a hail of "stones and bricks".

It is understood objects they may also have been using as weapons were then found "hidden nearby".

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Our CCTV operators picked up an on going disturbance at the Bryson Street/Pitt Park interface area of East Belfast.

"A crowd [of] approximately 30 youths ran from the area and police recovered a number of objects that were used as weapons hidden nearby.

"Thanks to good work from our CCTV crew these objects were located and seized by police even with stones and bricks being thrown at us and our vehicles.

"Enquiries will be made and CCTV followed up to identify those involved in the disorder."
