Police check every person in quarantine in the ACT

A posse of police officers have been enlisted for a day of Covid compliance, ACT Policing said.

More than 50 police officers were visiting everyone in the ACT undertaking quarantine or subject to stay-at-home orders on Tuesday, ACT police claimed.

They said there are more than 860 people undertaking quarantine in the ACT, and 240 people subject to stay-at-home directions.

ACT police said they will also be stopping vehicles at border crossings between the ACT and NSW to ensure no one is breaching orders.

Police will also be attending construction sites to ensure any workers from outside the ACT have the correct permits or exemptions, they said.

ACT Policing said they conducted 391 checks of homes, hotels and businesses from the week starting Monday, August 9.

Due to the increased number of people required to quarantine in the ACT, the joint call centre was again implemented by ACT Policing last Wednesday.

Between August 4 and 8am Monday, more than 1600 people had been contacted by ACT Emergency Services Agency volunteers or ACT Health personnel.

More than 2500 drivers were stopped by police on Canberra's roads last week in targeted COVID-19 compliance traffic stops, ACT Policing said.

One caution was issued during the week and seven people were directed to leave the ACT.

Three infringement notices were issued and four people were arrested.

Police are still urging the community to report incidents of non-compliance through the appropriate channels.

People can report Covid breaches to the ACT COVID-19 Hotline at 6207 7244.
