Police chase man with knife through Bristol school playground

A man with a knife has been detained by police after being chased through school grounds this afternoon (September 11).

The drama unfolded at around 3:40pm at Southville's Holy Cross School.

No pupils were in the playground during the incident.

Officers were alerted to suspected drug dealing and began chasing a man.

He fled the scene and jumped over the school wall. It's understood the man injured himself when he landed, and he is now being treated by paramedics.

Suspected class B drugs and a knife were seized by officers.

A spokeswoman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "Patrolling police officers have detained a man after being flagged down by a member of the public reporting suspected drug dealing.

"A man made off from the officers and was detained after being injured jumping over a wall into the grounds of a school in Dean Lane.

"Thankfully, as it was the end of the school day there were no children in this area.

"Officers are currently waiting for an ambulance crew to assess his injuries. They have seized suspected class B drugs and a knife."

One parent, who wished to remain anonymous, said it was concerning.

He said: "Well it happened so quick. All children were fine, but parents were concerned as nobody knew what was going on.

"Lucky enough, all children were inside as the incident unfolded outside."
