Police chase footage released after Belfast pursuit

Police have released shocking footage of their pursuit of an uninsured driver through Belfast.

The incident happened in the city on October 18 but today police shared dashcam footage after the driver was given 10 months in jail.

PSNI Inspector Rosie Leech said: “What you’re about to see shows a police pursuit. It shows the subject vehicle failing to stop for red lights, driving on the footpath, driving at excessively high speeds through built up areas, you see it almost crash into an ambulance. Lucky the ambulance wasn’t coming for him.”

The pursuit begins at Garmoyle Street, through Dock Street, Corporation street and to Donegall Quay.

The vehicle is seen dangerously maneuvering through traffic and mounting pavements. Police eventually stop it at Frances Street.

Inspector Leech added: “So what was this all about? It turns out that this driver was uninsured.

“He would likely have been prosecuted and had his vehicle seized, instead of which, he went to court on a litany of dangerous driving charges and he got 10 months in prison. So the message is simple, when the police ask you to stop, you need to stop.”
