Police charge teenage boy over Kempsey stabbing

Police have charged a 17-year-old boy after an alleged stabbing in Kempsey.

A 21-year-old man presented at Kempsey Base Hospital on Monday afternoon with stab wounds to his chest and back and was flown to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.

Police established a crime scene in a car park on Smith Street, Kempsey, and arrested a 17-year-old in West Kempsey on Tuesday morning.

He was taken to Kempsey police station and charged with wounding a person with intent to commit grievous bodily harm, being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence and affray.

The boy was refused bail to appear before a children's court on Wednesday.

Both males are believed to be known to each other.

Police said on Wednesday morning that the man remained in a serious but stable condition.
