21yo man faces court charged with Melbourne park rape

A man has been charged with raping a woman who was walking her dog in Thornbury's Mayer Park.

A man has appeared in a Melbourne court after being charged with the rape of a woman in a park in Melbourne's north on Saturday night.

Tyler Skerry, 21, of no fixed address, sat quietly during a brief appearance at Melbourne Magistrates' Court.

He is accused of attacking a 32-year-old woman who was walking a dog near Mayer Park in Thornbury.

He did not apply for bail.

Prosecutors asked the court for extra time so that various exhibits — including CCTV footage and DNA results — could be analysed.

Magistrate Joanne Metcalf said it was in the interests of justice to allow extra time before the next hearing.

Mr Skerry was charged with rape and unlawful imprisonment after being arrested at Preston police station on Monday.

He was remanded in custody and will return to court in January 2020.
