Police charge man over Mayfield West stand-off

Police and paramedics on the scene at Mayfield West on Friday morning.

A man has been charged after an alleged stand-off with police in Maitland Road, Mayfield West, on Friday.

Police were called to a unit block about 12.45am after reports of a man damaging cars, climbing on the roof of the building and throwing tiles at vehicles below.

Nine hours later the man climbed down and was taken to Newcastle Police Station then hospital for assessment.

He was later charged with using an offensive weapon to prevent arrest, four counts of malicious damage, wilful and obscene exposure, intimidation, resisting arrest and breaching bail.

Meanwhile, police are looking for a man with a diamond stud in his right ear after a 14-year-old girl was allegedly assaulted in a park in Wyong on Friday.

A man allegedly approached the girl and a friend about 4.40pm, grabbed her arm and tried to pull her towards a nearby toilet block.

The girl screamed and the man pulled away.

He is described as being of Caucasian appearance with a large build, 25 to 35 years old with brown hair and wearing black tracksuit pants, a black t-shirt and a black cap.
