Police charge man over alleged South Belfast 'broom handle robbery'

A man has been charged with a number of offences following an alleged South Belfast robbery where the perpetrator is reported to have used a broom handle as a weapon.

Police said the 24-year-old is due before Belfast Magistrates Court today (Tuesday, November 26).

He is facing charges of robbery, assault on a police designated person and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence following reports of an incident at a shop on the Dublin Road around 8.35pm on Sunday.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "A 24-year-old man has been charged with robbery, assault on a police designated person and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence.

"He is due to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court on Tuesday 26 November. As is normal procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the PPS."
