Police Charge Four More Men In Relation To The Alleged Attack On Camp Sovereignty

Police have since charged four more men in relation to the alleged neo-Nazi attack on Camp Sovereignty in Melbourne / Naarm on Sunday afternoon.

At about 5pm on August 31, a group of people were seen charging towards Camp Sovereignty, located in the Kings Domain, following an anti-immigration protest in the CBD.

It’s alleged that neo-Nazis attacked the Indigenous group — including women — destroyed property, and desecrated flags in the incident.

In a statement on Monday, following the incident, Camp Sovereignty and the Black Peoples Union alleged to The Guardian that the group “ran up the hill and immediately targeted women, grabbing them, throwing them to the ground, and striking them in the head”.

The camp also said four people required medical attention and that two more were taken to hospital with severe head injuries.

Since then, the Police have charged a total of six people in relation to the alleged attack, with authorities reporting that four more men have been charged since Sunday.

Per Victoria Police, a 29-year-old Rye man was interviewed by detectives on September 3, and has since been charged with violent disorder, affray, unlawful assault and discharging a missile. He was set to appear before Melbourne’s Magistrates’ Court on September 4.

On September 4, authorities reported that another 29-year-old man, who has no fixed address, had been charged with violent disorder, affray, unlawful assault and discharging a missile. He has been remanded to appear in Melbourne’s Magistrates’ Court on September 5.

A 31-year-old Mitcham man was charged with violent disorder, affray and assault with a weapon and bailed to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ court on September 9.

A 34-year-old Werribee man was charged with violent disorder, affray, assault by kicking and committing an indictable offence on bail.

The Werribee man has bailed and is now set to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on September 9.

On Tuesday, neo-Nazi Thomas Sewell, 32, was arrested outside of Melbourne’s Magistrates’ Court in relation to the alleged attack alongside, a 23-year-old Mooroolbark man and a 20-year-old Ardeer man.

“Detectives from Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit attended Melbourne Magistrates’ Court about 3.20pm this afternoon,” a Victoria Police spokesperson told PEDESTRIAN.TV.

“Officers arrested a 32-year-old man from Balwyn, a 23-year-old man from Mooroolbark and a 20-year-old man from Ardeer. They are being interviewed in relation to an ongoing investigation into alleged assaults in King’s Domain about 5pm on 31 August.”

Sewell’s arrest came hours after he interrupted Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan‘s press conference.

“We know how these goons operate,” Allan said of Sewell’s stunt at her press conference.

“They whip up fear to divide our society and they will fail.”

Investigations into the incident are currently ongoing, with authorities urging anyone with information or footage that could assist police to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
