Oct. 10--The father of a 5-month-old boy was charged with aggravated DUI and domestic battery after an incident Oct. 7 that resulted in serious injury to the baby, police said in a press release.
The boy's father, Kevin Hodge, 22, of Romeoville, argued with his own father, who also lives in Romeoville, after Hodge was in a hit-and-run accident Oct. 7, the release said. The baby, who police said was injured during the argument, was taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, then later flown to Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago.
Detectives are investigating whether the boy, who was in the vehicle during the accident, also was hurt then, said Cmdr. John Ferdinardo, adding they do not know the extent of injuries.
Further charges might follow, Romeoville police said Friday.
A police officer was flagged down at 3:49 p.m. Oct. 7 about a hit-and-run accident at Weber Road and Highpoint Drive. Ferdinardo said he did not have further information about the accident.
Ten minutes later, police received a call for an ambulance for an injured child at Hodge's father's home, which is near the accident scene.
During the argument with his father, Hodge struck him even though he was holding Hodge's infant son, police said, and while Hodge was striking his father, he struck his son in the head.
After the argument, Hodge left the home but was found at another on the block hiding under a vehicle, police said.
Ferdinardo said he believes the child's mother was working at the time.
