Police have charged an 18-year-old man with murder in relation to the death of a 58-year-old man in central Queensland last week.

It is alleged the older man was found unresponsive at an address on a Loche Street in Emerald at about 11pm on Friday, March 10, after an alleged disturbance involving the pair.

Police said the two men were known to each other.

The teenager was taken into custody on the night of the alleged homicide but was later released.

On Thursday afternoon he was formally charged with one count of murder at the Emerald police station.

He has been denied police bail ahead of appearing in the Emerald Magistrates Court on Friday.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and police have asked anyone who may have more information to contact them.
