Police charge 15-year-old with murder over Melbourne train station death

Aguer Akec was described as a good boy who cared for his family and loved playing sport.

A 15-year-old boy has been charged with murder over the death of 17-year-old Aguer Akec in an alleged brawl in Melbourne's west in December.

Aguer was allegedly stabbed outside Keilor Plains Railway Station in St Albans on December 22 and later died from his injuries.

It is believed up to 30 young people gathered on Kegan Street next to the train station, some armed with golf clubs, steel poles and a knife.

A dispute over a Holden Commodore is believed to have sparked the brawl.

Ten people were initially arrested and then released.

The 15-year-old Tarneit boy was arrested by the anti-bikie Echo Taskforce in Melbourne CBD on Wednesday afternoon.

He was interviewed about the death and Homicide Squad detectives later charged the teenager with murder.

He will face a Children's Court over the death.

Melbourne's South Sudanese community held a vigil in Aguer's honour at the train station in the days after Christmas.

A family spokesperson said he was "very humble, quiet and respectful".

He was visiting Melbourne from Adelaide to see his mother for Christmas and had just finished Year 11.

Aguer and his mother had planned to move to Uganda together after the festive break to join his siblings and extended family.
