Police CCTV appeal as mum and child racially abused after England Euro 2020 match

A mum and a child were reportedly racially abused following England's Euro 2020 win over Germany.

Police say the pair were surrounded by football fans, who appeared to have been drinking, while driving through Talbot Street, Nottingham on Tuesday, June 29.

They were driving through the area at around 6.50pm when officers say they were blocked by a crowd of 20 young men.

Tthe group shouted abuse at the woman and child with at least one male climbing onto her car.

Mobile phone videos were also taken of the victim at the scene and liquid, believed to be alcohol, was also poured the vehicle.

The victim was unharmed in the incident and called the police moments later.

Investigating officers have now released an image of a man they wish to speak to following the incident.

Assistant Chief Constable Steve Cooper, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was an absolutely disgraceful incident in which a young mother was abused and intimidated in the middle of our city in broad daylight.

“Nottinghamshire Police will never tolerate any form of racist abuse and we are determined to bring all those involved to justice.

“In this regard we would like to speak to the person pictured in this image, who we believe may be able to help us in our enquiries.

We would also like to speak to anybody who witnessed this incident or who has any other information that may help us.

"We would particularly like to speak with anyone who has mobile phone footage of what happened.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101 quoting incident 638 of June 29.
