Police caught drink driver after reports of speeding car at Morrisons

Police stopped a drink driver after receiving information about a car speeding at a Morrisons car park, a court heard.

A black Volkswagen Golf was said to be in the car park at the supermarket, in Gamston, on December 11.

Police were advised the vehicle was then speeding along various road, Nottingham Magistrates' Court was told.

Officers found the vehicle and followed it. They said it was speeding on a number of occasions, explained Sukhy Singh, prosecuting.

The car was stopped and driver Declan Thompson, 26, of Furness Close, West Bridgford, was arrested.

He tested 165 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood - over the limit of 35 - on Ambleside, Gamston.

He pleaded guilty to drink-driving and was fined £120, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £34 and costs of £85. A driving ban of 19 months was imposed. This will be reduce if he completes a drink drive rehabilitation course.
