Police catch woman after fleeing Scotland for Hogmanay house party in Kent

A woman has been caught flouting coronavirus rules after attending a house party in England.

Currently, a legal travel ban is in place both within Scotland's local authorities and on the border with England, as cases of the new coronavirus strain continue to rise.

Despite clear warnings from the government and police, the woman had made the trip down south for New Year, where she was stopped by officers at Medway Services on the M2.

After being caught breaching the restrictions, she was then fined £200 for her actions and told to return home immediately.

On Monday, the Chief Constable of Police Scotland stated that they would be increasing community patrols to ensure the public are abiding by the new lockdown rules.

In a statement, Iain Livingstone said: "I fully recognise the impact these further restrictions will have on people’s lives.

“However, it is clear that the significant sacrifices being made by people across Scotland are vital to help suppress the spread of coronavirus.

“Our approach throughout the pandemic has not changed. Police Scotland officers will continue to support people to follow the regulations and encourage them to take personal responsibility.

“People should not leave their homes unless for essential purposes. The best way to stay safe is to stay at home.

“Officers and staff have worked exceptionally hard throughout the pandemic to keep people safe and our visible presence will be increased over the coming days and weeks."
