Police catch shoplifter trying to make a clean getaway after strange robbery

Police operating in Belfast City Centre came across a man trying to rob a grocery store in the area.

They managed to catch the burglar in the midst of his spree and discovered quite a random combination of products on him.

In a picture posted by the City Centre Police team's Facebook, they showed lighters, washing detergent, scent boosters for the wash and blu tack.

The man now remains in police custody and is likely to be charged for his attempted robbery.

In a light-hearted post on Facebook, they joked that “If the male who had stolen these items had been a bit lighter on his feet he may have made a clean getaway but instead he was stuck in our custody suite with a charge sheet.

"The City Centre Team will be out again today on foot and bikes tackling shoplifting in the area.

"It is not a victimless crime."

People have been questioning the random haul with one writing; "The blue tack is quite random!"

Another jokingly said; "Give the lad a break he just wanted to be able to wash his clothes, stick up some posters and light a candle!

"It should be a crime to charge flipping €6 for those scent boosters anyway lol."
