Police catch parents who were buckled up themselves... but driving their kids to school without seatbelts

Several parents have been caught driving their kids to school without seatbelts - even though the adults were buckled up themselves.

A total of five parents were issued with tickets by police during spot checks outside Seymour Park Primary School, in Old Trafford, this morning.

Another driver has also been summoned to court because two children in their car were not wearing seatbelts and the registration plate was of the “illegal type”.

Neighbourhood officer PC Andrew Walsh told the M.E.N that officers often monitor parents driving their kids to school to check on speeding and parking contraventions.

He said: “Today on five occasions, we have stopped cars and the children not having their seatbelts on (the parents did!!).

“They have been issued with tickets whereby they’ll receive a fine. All this is done under the Safe Schools Partnership work.

"The team (Trafford North Neighbourhood Team) enjoy doing these morning patrols and we are always welcomed by the various primary schools we visit.

“Sometimes it’s shocking what we see and we always ask the schools to mention on their school letters about our patrols outside and to warn the parents.

Officers from GMP Stretford tweeted about the incidents on Friday.

They wrote: “Really disappointed with the parents/guardians of @SeymourParkCPS  this morning. 5 tickets issued to drivers due to the children not wearing their seatbelts.

“A driver has also been summonsed for having two children with no seatbelts plus the reg plate being illegal type.”

Police say another woman has also been fined after she was discovered transporting four children in the back of a car designed for three people.
