Police catch London driver attempting to sneak into Aberdeen to visit his cousin

A driver has been caught attempting to travel more than 500 miles from London to Aberdeen - to see his cousin.

The man was caught by Cumbria Roads Police, near the Scottish border, as he attempted to make the near nine-hour drive from the capital to the north-east of Scotland.

Officers from the English force stopped the expensive Mercedes car and turned the male driver back towards London earlier today.

Cumbria cops who stopped the driver took to Twitter as they warned others who are tempted break rules to see family that they would not tolerate it.

In the post they said: "This driver thought it would be OK to drive from London to Aberdeen to see his cousin.

"Nope!"

It's not the first time a chancer has tried ditching lockdown rules for a Scots break.

A family were pulled over this weekend for trying to go to Motherwell for a three-day break.

After speaking to the family, who were already four hours into their journey, cops asked them to return to London.

It comes as Nicola Sturgeon refused to adopt the new slogan announced by Boris Johnson about staying alert as he looks to ease lockdown rules south of the border.

The First Minister said the message in Scotland was still "stay home".
