Police catch driver going 30mph over the speed limit near Edinburgh Airport

Police have warned they are carrying out speed checks after catching one driver going over 30mph above the speed limit.

Officers from the road police unit were carrying out patrols near Edinburgh Airport on Monday morning (15 February), on the A8.

The driver was clocked speeding 71mph in a 40mph zone when officers pulled them over and reported them to the Procurator Fiscal.

In a statement, the unit said: "Edinburgh Road Police carried out speed enforcement on the A8 near Edinburgh Airport this morning.

"Despite it being a 40mph speed limit, one driver was stopped after being detected driving at 71mph. They have been reported to the Procurator Fiscal."

Writing about the stop, police said a pedestrian or cyclist "wouldn't stand a chance" of being seen by the driver.
