Police catch driver doing 50mph in the outside lane of the M60. He 'didn't know they were only for overtaking'

Police have pulled a driver after catching him doing 50mph in one of the outside lanes on the motorway.

Officers spotted the Toyota Estima being driven well below the speed limit in the third of four lanes on the M60 on Sunday evening.

In footage shared to social media, other motorists can be seen having to overtake the slow-moving driver.

Officers explained that the driver's actions were causing traffic to build up behind him, and that he initially carried on going when they flashed at him to pull over.

Footage from the patrol car showed police having to drive at just over 40mph on the motorway to keep pace with the vehicle.

Police said traffic was building up behind the driver (gmp traffic)

Police wrote: "Toyota Estima sat in lane 3 at speeds no more than 50mph causing traffic behind to build up.

"When he was requested to stop he continued to drive on unaware that the police wanted to speak with him.

"Didn't realise the outer lanes were for overtaking! TOR issued."
