Police catch cannabis dealer after speaking to his customers

A man caught dealing cannabis has been spared immediate custody.

Police spoke to two people who admitted buying the drug from Lewis Jenkins at a multi-occupancy premises in Filton Avenue.

They then searched Jenkins' room and found cannabis valued at around £2,000, Bristol Crown Court heard.

Jenkins, 22, pleaded guilty to possessing a Class B drug with intent to supply.

Judge Martin Picton handed him a five months prison sentence suspended for 12 months, with 80 hours' unpaid work.

The judge told Jenkins: "You committed a serious offence.

"Drug dealing is not a game that you should be getting involved in.

"It can result in loss of liberty.

"You are of otherwise excellent character."

Jenkins had an available £2,180 confiscated under the Proceeds of Crime Act and was ordered to pay £100 costs.

Drugs and drug paraphernalia recovered was destroyed.

Eshanul Oarith, prosecuting via video link, said police searched Jenkins' room in April last year and found cannabis as well as cash, electronic weighing scales and mobile phones.

The phones contained evidence of a "cannabis menu" and drug supply and marketing messages, the court heard.

Jenkins made no comment to all questions when interviewed.

Tabitha Macfarlane, defending, said her client had sought counselling for mental health issues and was addressing anxiety management.

Miss Macfarane said Jenkins had "worked hard from his paper round upwards" and was on a university course.
