Police catch Bristol cannabis dealer after following Audi near Weston-super-Mare

A warehouse manager has admitted trying to peddle drugs.

Police spotted Steven Burton driving a silver Audi on the A370 at Banwell around 4.50am on March 21, 2019.

Bristol Crown Court heard he drove up an unlit track, and when police pulled up they recovered items nearby which turned out to be cannabis he discarded.

The 53-year-old, of Camberley Road in Bristol, pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis with intent to supply. The Recorder of Bristol His Honour Judge Peter Blair QC handed him a four months prison sentence, suspended for 18 months.

He told Burton: "You were tempted, by financial advantage, of selling some cannabis. It is plain that, in the summer of 2018, you were prepared to sell people up to a quarter of an ounce of cannabis at a time."

Burton was told to carry out 150 hours' unpaid work and pay £150 prosecution costs. £11,325 proceeds of crime was confiscated.

Julian Howells, prosecuting, said packages forensically linked to Burton contained just under 100g of cannabis.

He was taken to Patchway Police Centre and made no comment when interviewed.

Police found £11,325 cash under a mattress at his home, as well as evidence of cannabis dealing on his phone.

Nicholas Clough, defending, said his client had had a job for 21 years and was fearful of going to prison.

Mr Clough told the court Burton was remorseful and had became involved with cannabis due to trying to help others.
