Police catch 90 people speeding in just one hour near Bolton primary schools

Police caught 90 drivers speeding in just one hour as part of a community programme near two primary schools.

Officers working with members of the public set up a speed camera on Ainsworth Lane, Tonge Fold, Bolton , to catch motorists flaunting the rules.

The road takes drivers through a busy residential area and past the turnings for Moorgate Primary School and Tonge Moor Primary Academy so the speed limit is set at 20mph.

However, in a post on GMP's Bolton North Facebook page, an officer explained that nearly a hundred drivers were caught breaking that limit and one driver was going at more than double the legal speed.

They said: "We have again been working with local residents on Ainsworth Lane on a speed watch initiative.

"Despite the limit being 20mph, 90 cars over a one hour period were recorded going at least 26mph and one even recorded at 46mph.

"Letters will be sent out to the registered keepers."

Community speedwatch schemes are set up by neighbourhood police teams to allow members of the public to catch speeding drivers in their area.

Residents are trained up on how to use equipment and any speeding drivers they catch are referred to the police.
