People described their shock after a woman was found dead in a quiet residential estate on the outskirts of St Helens.
Police raced to the scene in Haydock yesterday (Wednesday) morning, after reports of concern for the safety of a woman at a property in Piele Road. On arrival, a woman, in her 40s was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
A man, in his 30s, was also found close to the scene with injuries. He remains in hospital as he continues to be interviewed by police.

The woman who died was named locally as Jaki Forrest from St Helens. Tributes have described her as a "funny" and "kind" person, who shared many "laughs" with friends.
Today (Thursday) there was still a significant police presence at the property, which is in a large block of flats or apartments on the estate. It is adjacent to Haydock Cricket Club and a local pub.
The block itself was behind a police cordon, and scenes of crimes officers could be seen taking photographs of the outside of the property before entering the building. One passerby who was out walking a dog said: "I could see the the police cars flying down off the East Lancs Road.
"It's shocking, absolutely shocking. You don't expect that of Haydock."
A resident who lives close to the scene of the police activity, said: "I'm fairly new here, so I'm shocked to see this."
Merseyside police confirmed a man from St Helens has been arrested on suspicion of murder. The 43 year-old was taken into custody where he is being questioned by detectives.
