'Police cars rammed' as Melbourne driver evades police

Police arrested the pair after chasing through Melbourne's north early this morning.

Two men have been arrested after a driver allegedly rammed into police cars this morning.

Police received calls from the public about a Nissan Navara ute with a blown tyre and sparking rim on the Eastern Freeway about 4:10am.

Officers found the vehicle on the Greensborough Road in Melbourne's north travelling about 40 kilometres per hour.

Police saw the ute cross onto the wrong side of the road near Simpson Barracks, and tried to intercept it.

The driver refused to pull over and took off onto the Western Ring Road.

The driver then allegedly rammed a number of police cars.

The ute left the Ring Road at Edgars Road and attempted to get back onto the Ring Road by going the wrong way down an off-ramp.

Police managed to stop the driver and arrested him and the passenger.

Two men, a 19-year-old from Craigieburn and a 20-year-old from Reservoir, have been charged with a number of offences including theft of a vehicle, and reckless conduct endangering serious injury.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has dashcam footage, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
