Officers from Merseyside Police conducted safety checks on taxis in the region on Thursday night (December 23), to check the vehicles comply with legislation.
Police said several taxis including some registered outside Merseyside had been stopped and offered advice and suspension notices after defects were discovered.
The checks come as police encourage revellers to make use of public transport and taxi services over the festive period, to avoid risking the dangers of drink and drug-driving.
Earlier this month, Inspector Carl McNulty, head of Merseyside Police's Road Policing Unit, said: "Drinking or taking drugs and then driving should not be mixed. Instead, leave your car keys at home, take a taxi, use a designated non-drinking driver, public transport or stay overnight. Think of the consequences before drink or drug driving – a crash or conviction can shatter many lives including your own."
