Driver smashes into stationary police car on busy bridge

A black Renault smashed into a stationary police car on a busy bridge.

The incident occurred around 12.50pm today on Gorsey Lane, near the Wallasey Tunnel, and led to the closure of the nearby roundabout.

An ambulance was deployed to the scene but the extent of any injuries is not yet clear.

The patrol car involved carries the livery of Mersey Tunnels Police, the specialised police force privately funded by Merseytravel and answerable to Liverpool City Region Combined Authority. It is understood that it was stationery at the time with emergency lighting on.

Around an hour after the collision a recovery vehicle was seen taking the patrol car, which had sustained damage to its front driver's side wheel.
