Ram-raiders used two flat-bed tipper trucks to rip a cash machine from a convenience store in Sale.
The 1am drama prompted a dramatic police chase where a patrol car was almost rammed and a suspect was eventually cornered by a police dog.
A team of thieves used TWO flat-bed tipper trucks during the raid at the Nisa store on Manor Avenue in Sale at 1am on Saturday.
They ripped out a cash machine mounted on an external wall, causing significant damage to the building.
One eye-witness has told the M.E.N. he was threatened with a brick by thief wearing a balaclava.
Police officers were called and a dramatic pursuit began.
One of the tipper trucks tried to ram a chasing patrol car, according to Greater Manchester Police in a post on their Trafford South Facebook page.
One if those on board the truck then 'tried his chances on foot'.
"One male was arrested after being detained by a police dog running from the tipper," according to the post.
The truck - with the stolen cash machine on the back - was seized by police and found to be stolen, say police who trumpeted the 'great result'.
Hundreds of people praised the actions of the police on Facebook.
"Well done. So Proud of our police. Need more dedicated officers," wrote Lynda Booth.
A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police confirmed officers are investigating the theft and made an appeal to the public for information. They confirmed the cash machine was recovered and that a suspect had been arrested.
The Nisa store remained cordoned off on Saturday morning as an investigation continues.
