A police car has been rammed while trying to stop a vehicle in northwest London, leaving a female officer hospitalised with leg and neck injuries.

The suspect, who was suspected of driving while disqualified, initially appeared to stop his Alfa Romeo.

But as the officer was getting out of her own vehicle to approach him, the suspect reversed along the pavement and rammed into her car at around 4pm on Wednesday.

Paramedics treated the officer at the scene in Wembley before taking her to hospital.

The suspect fled the scene in his vehicle, leaving police searching for both the Alfa Romeo and its driver. No arrests have been made so far.

The officer’s injuries are not believed to be life threatening, but she remains in hospital.

In 2018, the Metropolitan Police adopted a “tactical contact” strategy and released footage of police cars ramming moped drivers to combat a rise in robberies and acid attacks on scooters.

The Met is appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
