Police car left smashed in ditch after horror two-car crash on A92 in Fife

A police officer has been airlifted to hospital after a horror two-car crash left a patrol car in a ditch on the A92 in Fife.

Pictures from the scene showed the marked vehicle crumpled in a ditch by the side of the round following the incident which took place around 1.40pm on Thursday February 27.

One officer was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

The police vehicle was stationary and assisting another car which had stopped when a transporter collided with it.

Local Facebook site Fife Jammers told The Record the road has been closed in both directions to allow for a chopper to land.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "The A92 has been closed westbound from Crossgates to Cowdenbeath due to a serious crash involving two vehicles, which happened around 1.40pm today.

"Diversions are in place and motorists are asked to avoid the area."

They added: "The crash involved a transporter and a police vehicle. The police vehicle had been stationary and assisting a vehicle which had stopped.

"One officer has been airlifted to hospital with what are believed to be serious injuries and the A92 westbound remains closed."
