Police car left heavily damaged after crash on main road

A police car has been damaged following a crash in Atherton.

Photographs taken from the A579 Atherleigh Way this afternoon (Tuesday November 2) show that the front of a patrol car has been smashed, with debris strewn across the carriageway.

Another police van was also in attendance, following the collision, near the junction with Lovers Lane.

It happened shortly before 3pm, according to witnesses.

One of the carriageways were partially blocked due to the incident and there were queues along Atherleigh Way - which is one of the main roads between Atherton and Leigh.

It is now known whether anyone was injured in the crash.

Manchester Evening News has contacted Greater Manchester Police for more information.
